What Does the Lord Say About Patience

Learning to be patient is difficult, regardless of how old you are. From leaning patience when dealing with a tantrum-throwing toddler, to tempering your anxiety when waiting to hear about a new job opportunity, to trying to be patient with an older family member, finding ways to let life come to you can be far from easy. Thankfully, for those who subscribe to the Christian faith, there are more than a few Bible verses about patience that can help you ease your mind and remain present in the moment.

There truly are so many powerful Bible verses that will help you persevere in life. Be it uplifting Bible verses, Bible verses about anxiety, to inspirational Bible verses, there's no shortage of passages that can assist you in whatever moment you're currently facing. Coupled with some daily prayers — which can include prayers for healing, strength, and peace — and perhaps some mindful walking, you can rest easy knowing that you won't go through anything or deal with any hardship alone.

So when you feel like you're at your proverbial whit's end and just can't take another second of a frustrating moment, read these bible verses about patience and remember that scripture is always there to help you be your best self.

Proverbs 16:32

"Better to be patient than a warrior, and better to have self-control than to capture a city."

The Good News: This verse is kind of a turtle and the hare sort of story. In the end, it is the patience and self-control that wins — not charging ahead without abandon.

Romans 15:1

"We who are powerful need to be patient with the weakness of those who don't have power, and not please ourselves."

The Good News: It would be easy to be patient if everyone did everything according to your plans. The true test God has given you is being patient with those whom you find challenging.

2 Timothy 4:2

"Preach the word. Be ready to do it whether it is convenient or inconvenient. Correct, confront, and encourage with patience and instruction."

The Good News: When you spread the word of God to others, be patient with them on their own faith journeys. Everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds.

1 Timothy 1:16

"But this is why I was shown mercy, so that Christ Jesus could show his endless patience to me first of all. So I'm an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life."

The Good News: In return for the patience God gives to you, you can give Him your eternal faith. It's a mutually beneficial relationship between you and the Lord.

Galatians 5:22-23

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…"

The Good News: These are all the things He bestows on you. Channel these positive vibes in your own life.

Colossians 1:10-11

"We're praying this so that you can live lives that are worthy of the Lord and pleasing to him in every way: by producing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God; by being strengthened through his glorious might so that you endure everything and have patience."

The Good News: Having faith in God gives you strength to survive anything that comes your way, and to approach even difficult situations with the utmost patience. God is by your side.

2 Esdras 7:134

"...He shows patience to those who have sinned, since they are his own creation."

The Good News: Even when you mess up, God will be patient with you and help guide you back to the correct path.

1 Corinthians 13:4

"Love is patient, love is kind, it isn't jealous, it doesn't brag, it isn't arrogant."

The Good News: Just as the Bible verse says, true love is patient and kind. In times of tension with your partner, think back to why you love them in the first place.

Philippians 4:6

"Don't be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks."

The Good News: You have nothing to worry about, as God is here to listen to all of our fears. And once our hardships have passed, be sure to thank him for his guidance.

Romans 12:12

"Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you're in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer."

The Good News: Whenever we need something — to celebrate, cool down, or ask for help — we should turn to prayer. It's our way of communicating with God, and he's always ready to listen.

Galatians 6:9

"Let's not get tired of doing good, because in time we'll have a harvest if we don't give up."

The Good News: What goes around comes around. Be kind, be patient, and do good in the world. God will make sure you are rewarded.

Ephesians 4:2

"Conduct yourselves with all humility, gentleness, and patience. Accept each other with love."

The Good News: As followers of Christ we are called to treat one another as we would want to be treated. He calls us to love every single person — even those we dislike most. By doing so, we will gain acceptance into eternal heaven

Proverbs 15:18

"Hotheads stir up conflict, but patient people calm down strife."

The Good News: An angry person is quick to start fights, but by being patient and taking a deep breath, you're more likely to diffuse the situation. Be calm, pray, and think, "What would Jesus do?"

Lamentations 3:25-27

"The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to the person who seeks him. It's good to wait in silence for the Lord's deliverance. It's good for a man to carry a yoke in his youth."

The Good News: If you're feeling impatient in your faith, now is the time more than ever to trust in the Lord. He will guide us all to salvation, we just have to wait for the day with willing hearts.

Psalm 40:1

"I put all my hope in the Lord. He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help."

The Good News: When we listen closely for a sign from God, we will hear it, particularly in times we need it most. The key is to quiet everything else around us and focus on Him.

Ecclesiastes 7:8

"The end of something is better than its beginning. Patience is better than arrogance."

The Good News: While the beginning of something may be exciting, it's truly the journey to the end that is the most fulfilling. God leads us down the path where we need to go in all aspects of our lives, we just need to sit back and enjoy the ride.

James 5:8

"You also must wait patiently, strengthening your resolve, because the coming of the Lord is near."

The Good News: The coming of the Lord is imminent, so we must always act as if tomorrow is the day we enter everlasting life with Him. Be patient, kind, and full of love towards others.

Proverbs 14:29

"Patience leads to abundant understanding, but impatience leads to stupid mistakes."

The Good News: When you're in a tough situation, don't be quick to judge or have a hot head. If you have a short temper, you're more likely to make a mistake, so calm yourself and leave it all up to God.

Romans 8:25

"But if we hope for what we don't see, we wait for it with patience."

The Good News: Just as we believe in the Lord, whom we cannot see, we must leave our hope in many things that we cannot physically see. If, however, we continue to believe with faith and patience, we will be rewarded.

Exodus 14:14

"The Lord will fight for you. You just keep still."

The Good News: The Lord is our fierce protector, always. We just need to lay low, stay tranquil, and believe that whatever happens is his will.

Colossians 3:12-13

"Therefore, as God's choice, holy and loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other. As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other."

The Good News: As difficult as it may be, forgiveness is key. God constantly forgives us, therefore we must follow his lead and forgive others. This takes patience, humbleness, and much kindness in our hearts to do so, but we can do anything through Him.

Psalm 103:8

"The Lord is compassionate and merciful, very patient, and full of faithful love."

The Good News: God is loving, patient, forgiving, and every compassionate quality we could ever imagine. It's our duty to learn from his ways and treat others just as he treats his followers every single day.

Matthew 24:42

"Therefore, stay alert! You don't know what day the Lord is coming."

The Good News: Be alert, God could be coming any day now. So live your life to the fullest and love fiercely. Be quick to forgive and slow to anger.
